In the name of our Creator, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
When we are young, we are generally taught in a way which is a healthy balance of creating just enough fear to stop us from doing something which may harm us. Generally, the teaching comes from a point of love.
“Fear” as defined in Cambridge dictionary means “an unpleasant emotion or thought that you have when you are frightened or worried by something dangerous, painful, or bad that is happening or might happen”.
Example: As a toddler, we are taught not to touch a hot stove because if we do, we may burn ourselves. The thought of the pain results in the necessary fear needed to stop us from touching it and hurting ourselves.
The balance of fear from love…
Now let us use the same example, and as a child let’s assume you are inquisitive, you have never felt what a burn feels like, you decide to touch it. You burn, you cry, you hurt yourself. You feel the consequence of not taking the guidance from your parent. What now kicks in is “hope”, you are now more than affirmed in never touching a hot plate again. You also realise although you made a grave mistake in touching it, things will be OK, your hand will heal, and you are stronger for it…You take the lesson…
The balance of hope in fear from love…
For me, on a personal note, this example demonstrates life and how the Almighty provides us guidance out of love, he tells us of the consequences which may go either way, whatever the choice, in the end there is always hope…
May our lives be filled with the right balance of “Taqwa” with the blessings of our Divine Creator Ameen.
“Taqwa is a term for being conscious and cognisant of God, of truth, of the rational reality, “piety, fear of God.”
