In the name of our Creator the most Gracious, the most Merciful, the All Knowing

This piece of writing connects to a previous post “The gift of freewill”.

My daughter and I were chatting about choices and consequences due to a recent event on her part which resulted in undesired consequences.

She shared her opinion that each person should go on their own journey. Each should make their own choices irrespective of the consequences. If they are told not to do something because the consequences may not be great, they may want to experience this on their own and decide this for themselves. I thought about her comment. In life, most times this is how it plays out. At least once or more, until the lesson is learnt if at all…I acknowledged her feedback and thoughts.

We then went on to discuss a few examples, we used the example of speeding, if you exceed 120km there is a potential consequence of a traffic fine as you are breaking the rules of the road. You also risk your or other’s lives as the rules are there to control the traffic to avoid accidents. Would it be wise to still speed knowing this potential outcome? Or the example where you are taught as a child not to touch the hot stove as it will burn you, would it be wise to touch it.

She paused and thought about it…

I then ask her whether she thought there was a relationship or a connection between Freewill (the power of acting without the constraint of necessity or fate; the ability to act at one’s own discretion) and Revelation by our Creator.

(She has recently got into playing and designing on-line games)

“You see mommy “freewill” is like a “game”. You can’t play properly if you don’t have the “instructions” on how to play.

So, with life, Allah has given us “freewill” but he also gave us “guidance” being the Quran, which is like the game instructions. He is the designer, he created us and everything around us so he knows exactly what guidance to give us on how to live the best we can. The same like a designer of a game. We can use our choice to follow it or not but if we really want to play the game properly and get the best results, it makes sense to follow the instructions as the designer of the game knows exactly how to play it best…”

“So yes mommy, there is a relationship between freewill and revelation🙏🏼.”
